I lived too long in the South and occasionally, it breaks out all over the place, especially at puppy naming time. Charleston forever changed my vocabulary, so I place and somehow flavor my puppy endeavors with those wonderful old-fashioned monikers that have long since disappeared from daily use. And some puppies, like Georgie Mae, just seem to have a rather vintage, little old lady way about them, even in the midst of their puppy sillies.

Ah, yes, Georgie Mae, with her shining black and tan coat, accented with loads of snowy white in all the right places, is indeed a winsome small creature. Those dark eyes gazing earnestly into yours, even from the screen of an oh-so-modern device, her charm shines through. She truly is a love, cozy and snuggly enough to satisfy your every longing for a puppy who wants to be by your side but playful enough to wear the grandkids out when they come to visit.

And, a tiny flaw keeps her price a pinch lower than it would be because of her rare color; she has a slight underbite, vet checked and totally not a health issue, but it’s there, and she’s not perfect as a result (but who of us is when you come right down to it?).

She, on the other hand, has no idea that she’s not the bee’s knees and all that and a bag of chips! Big-hearted as the whole outdoors, she’s a lovely fit for a dozen different settings. Empty nesters to first time puppy newbies, she’ll be an easygoing and easy to train small miss who will do her best to learn her puppy basics with the least amount of fuss possible.

I do love that about our puppies, they fit so seamlessly into their new homes and have their besotted owners returning year after year, just looking mind you, until they succumb all over again and take the Puppy Plunge and add another eminently lovable Foxglove puppy to their shopping cart and find themselves full circle, beginning the journey with a new puppy, because you can never have too much love in your life, even when it arrives in the form of a furry creature with a wagging tail.
